Certifications & Qualifications for Our DCFS-Licensed Preschool Staff
At Decatur YMCA, our preschool program meets and exceeds the rigorous standards set forth by the Illinois Department of Child & Family Services (DCFS). Here’s what you can expect from the team dedicated to your child’s care and education:
Qualified Leadership
- Child Care Director: Always on-site, our directors are at least 21 years old with two years of college education or equivalent experience and credentials.
Skilled Early Childhood Educators
- Teachers: Our early childhood teachers are at least 19 years old and have completed two years of college or possess equivalent experience and credentials.
- Assistants: Supporting our teaching staff, assistants hold a high school diploma or equivalent and work under the direct supervision of our certified teachers.
Specialized Training
- In-Service Education: All staff complete 15 hours of professional development annually, ensuring they stay updated on the latest early childhood education practices.
- CPR & First Aid: A staff member certified in first aid, CPR, and the Heimlich maneuver is always present on-site for immediate response in emergencies.
Health & Safety Standards
- Medical Clearances: All staff have current medical reports on file to ensure their health aligns with the needs of working with children.
- Background Checks: Comprehensive screenings are conducted for all staff to verify no history of criminal convictions or child abuse and neglect.
